RISK INTELLIGENCE
CASE STUDY
A London based independent investment firm was considering a European deal in excess of 100 million euros. Mercator were engaged by the firm to provide open source detailed due diligence reports on key individuals and corporate entities across a number of countries and jurisdictions. The resulting reports prompted further in depth on the ground investigations into one of the individuals and one of the companies involved.
These investigations uncovered a concealed background history of failed business ventures associated with allegations of substantial fraud and misconduct. The individual was also found to be living a lifestyle that could not be reconciled with his apparent means and to have disguised links to high ranking government officials in one of the countries where the deal was to have effect. As a result of this information, the client was able to adjust and amend the deal to remove the risks identified.
